Housekeeper/Caretaker

We have been in Seward since 2002, and love the area and all it has to offer. We truly enjoy hosting guests at our vacation rental throughout the summer, and sharing the local area with them. Living on the same property as the lodge – in a cabin across the driveway – we interact with our guests as much or as little as they would like, and strive to be around as a resource for them whenever needed. We’re looking for someone to join us for the summer of 2024 (and hopefully future summers as well!), and become part of our small team. We work hard to provide the best experience possible for our guests, while also maximizing all the fun that Seward has to offer.

The housekeeper / caretaker job will primarily consist of cleaning the lodge on every turnover throughout the summer. This is usually a few times each week – but of course flexes / shifts based on guest booking dates. We pay $150 / turnover, which will take from 10am – 4pm. You’ll be expected to work that entire shift, and if you finish cleaning the lodge early there are other tasks you can work on. In addition, you’ll be in charge of handling the trash and recycling, and bringing it to the dump at the end of the cleaning day. We do ask that any applicants will have a car while in Seward that they can use for this task, and for getting out and about. Our hope is that our housekeeper will learn our way of doing things, and will then take ownership of inventory lists / the housekeeper’s work space / and all turnovers… keeping everything in tip top shape at all times. Applicants will be expected to have keen attention to detail and show initiative on the job.

In addition to the housekeeping job, we can offer on-site housing in a small apartment above our cabin, if needed. It has a separate entrance, full bathroom, kitchen, living / dining area, and small bedroom. There is also a shared laundry space between our cabin and the apartment. This laundry and all utilities are included in the cost of housing. It’s ideal for a single or couple only. No pets allowed. Housing in Seward is very hard to come by, and we will offer this lodging at a highly discounted rate in exchange for caretaking the property whenever we leave town. This means greeting guests, offering assistance when needed, mowing the lawn, watering and deadheading flowers, etc. It’s not a big job, but reliability, trustworthiness, and professionalism are paramount. It will be expected that you are “around” and living on-site whenever we’re out of town.

The season runs from mid-May through mid-September. The housekeeper will be expected to be in Seward and handling all turnovers for the duration of the summer season. A generous end-of-season bonus will be given if the housekeeper completes this task, helps with early and late season prep tasks / deep cleaning, and does so to our high standards… with attention to detail, professionalism, and a great attitude. Being a team player goes a long way, and we’re happy to reward excellence.

If you’re looking for a fun summer in one of Alaska’s prime recreation destinations, this might be just the fit for you. When you’re not cleaning, you could be out fishing, hiking, ice climbing, kayaking, zip lining, taking boat tours, glacier hiking, flight seeing, or traveling around other parts of Alaska. We tend to be quite busy throughout the summer, and traveling from time-to-time… so the ideal employee will be able to take initiative and get outside on their own. We’re happy to offer guidance / advice / and share adventures from time to time.
